Every child deserves the opportunity to develop language skills that open doors to education, communication and future possibilities.
English is an important international language that connects people across countries, cultures and communities. Developing English language skills can create valuable opportunities for learning, personal development and future careers.
English Through Sport is a planned educational initiative by SPORT4KIDS that aims to make English language learning accessible, engaging and relevant to children and young people in Novo Selo, Macedonia.
By connecting English lessons with football, volleyball and interactive learning activities, we want to encourage children to practise the language naturally, develop confidence and discover the enjoyment of learning.
Learning English Through Movement and Play
Learning a new language can be challenging, especially when children have limited opportunities to practise it outside the classroom.
Sport creates natural situations for communication, cooperation and active participation. Instructions, team activities and shared challenges provide opportunities to use new words and expressions in meaningful ways.
Our planned approach combines age-appropriate English learning with movement, interactive games, practical communication and positive encouragement.
The programme is intended to complement formal school education while helping children develop confidence in speaking and understanding English.
Building Language Skills Through Sport
English Through Sport is being designed around six complementary learning areas that combine foundational English language skills with interactive sporting activities.
Vocabulary Through Sport
Introducing everyday English vocabulary through football, volleyball, movement games and familiar sporting situations, including numbers, colours, actions and equipment.
Listening & Understanding
Developing listening comprehension through simple English instructions, games, demonstrations and interactive group activities.
Speaking & Communication
Encouraging children to use English words, short sentences, questions and everyday expressions in supportive situations without fear of making mistakes.
Reading & Basic Writing
Supporting foundational reading and writing skills through short texts, vocabulary exercises, activity cards and age-appropriate learning tasks.
Teamwork & Language Games
Using cooperative challenges, role-playing activities and educational games to practise English while strengthening teamwork and social interaction.
Confidence & Cultural Awareness
Encouraging curiosity about other countries and cultures while helping children develop confidence in communicating with people beyond their immediate community.
Turning Sport Into Language Learning
Our ambition is to develop accessible English learning opportunities that connect classroom-style activities with practical communication through football and volleyball.
Interactive English Sessions
Planned small-group learning sessions introducing essential vocabulary, listening, speaking and foundational language skills through age-appropriate activities.
English in Training Activities
Integrating simple English words, instructions and communication exercises into selected football and volleyball activities in cooperation with coaches.
Games & Practical Challenges
Combining movement, team challenges, role-playing and educational games to encourage active language use, collaboration and learning motivation.
Two Sports. One Shared Language.
SPORT4KIDS works with two established partner clubs in Novo Selo: FK Ogražden and ŽOK Novo Selo.
These sporting communities provide a foundation for connecting children and young people with additional educational opportunities.
English Through Sport is intended to be accessible to participants from both clubs, with activities adapted to different age groups and levels of English proficiency.

By combining the motivation created through sport with interactive language learning, we aim to help participants develop practical communication skills, confidence and curiosity about the wider world.
As the programme develops, we hope to collaborate with educators, volunteers and educational partners to create sustainable learning opportunities that complement formal schooling.
We believe that language should bring people together, expand horizons and help young people discover possibilities beyond geographical boundaries.
